Emily Tyman

Painter |  Geneva, NY

Artist in residence October/November 2018

"Art has always been a way for me to understand my emotions and connect to the world around me. At times I become very anxious and overwhelmed and what I make is something that reflects my insecurities and frustrations. It then becomes a physical form that I can use to process my feelings. I use my artwork as something to help me understand and find my place in the world.

My recent work has been focusing on color and shapes and breaking down environments. I want to highlight the materials that I use, such as the linen or wood that I paint on and make that material as equally important as the paint that I’m using."
