"I work in painting, using a multi media approach, encompassing oils, encaustics, image transfer, collage, acrylic, found object, and inks. I’ve been working this way since my undergraduate studies at Bennington College.
I feel that the piece dictates the medium; therefore one medium may feed the color saturation, while another may best enhance shape, form and pattern. My work is heavily influenced by nature and the natural world, observed color and repetition, patterns, chaos and order, growth and decay. Within my paintings, I combine elements of representation and abstraction to show this inspiration, incorporating a strong sense of beauty.
At times, the work takes a very ordered and gridded approach, as things understood as concrete; while at other times, repetitious forms and patterns start to emerge, creating unique, abstract, playful landscapes. These abstract landscapes serve as journeys and paths we discover in the process of living amidst this natural order. Through the use of repetition of object and form, in both microcosm and macrocosm, I attempt to further understand and interpret this natural order."
