Anna Burke

Anna Burke of Detroit, MI

“As a designer and maker, I survey the visual culture around me and find myself always listening. I log words from both my outward conversations and inward thoughts. Some phrases are humorous, others personal, and a few habitual throughout my life. Transcribing these words onto functional wares becomes a way of permanent note taking while exploring color and type. The mug as an object finds its way easily into our daily rituals and carries with it these recorded expressions.”

Anna Burke is a ceramic artist in Detroit, MI. She received her BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.  Anna maintains a studio practice at The Glastonbury Collective in Northwest Detroit. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Lawrence Technological University teaching clay modeling and works as a clay sculptor in the automotive design industry.
